Guide
How many images should an Etsy listing use?
Etsy currently allows up to 20 photos and 2 videos per listing. That is an upload ceiling, not a required count or ranking rule; choose distinct images that answer buyer questions and that your source can support.
Separate the upload allowance from the useful set
Etsy's current listing form allows up to 20 photos and 2 videos. Treat that as the platform's upload ceiling, not a target to fill or a ranking signal. Remove repeated compositions even when there is room to add more.
Give each image a buyer question
For a mug, these are possible roles rather than a prescribed count. Use the ones that answer a real question and have enough evidence behind them.
- Recognition: show the whole mug so the body and handle are easy to identify.
- Detail: make the glaze, rim, or handle attachment inspectable.
- Evidence-backed scale: use confirmed measurements and a trustworthy reference, not a guessed size in a room.
- Context: show presentation without implying an unconfirmed capacity or included accessory.
Add a reference when a role needs more evidence
A front photo does not prove the base, the interior, or the reverse of a personalized design. Photograph the missing surface before planning a view that depends on it. Lystiva can help organize distinct roles, but one Source photo does not guarantee a complete set of usable outputs; paid Studio image production is not generally available yet.
What to review before export
Check that the product remains recognizable, visible details are correct, and the set does not repeat one composition four times. Remove any frame that introduces an unsupported fact or misleading context.
